Company Profile
Carnegie Mellon University’s METALS (Masters of Educational Technology and Applied Learning Science) interdisciplinary masters program produces learning engineers. In the 12 month program, our students learn how to apply evidence-based research to create effective and efficent instruction and educational technologies for formal and informal settings such as schools, workplaces, and museums. The professional program culminates with a seven-month capstone project for an external client in which interdisciplinary student teams experience the end-to-end process of a product cycle from idea through prototyping. The METALS curriculum is at the crossroads of cognitive science, statistics, computer science, education and design. Learn more at http://metals.hcii.cmu.edu.
Carnegie Mellon University’s Open Learning Initiative (OLI) offers freely available, adaptive online courses to anyone who wants to learn or teach. Our courses combine open and continuous feedback with an instructor dashboard and sophisticated analytics to improve learning outcomes and transform higher education. All of our 27 and growing high-quality courses employ the latest learning science research. Numerous studies have shown that students learn more and retain it longer when using OLI-developed courses than video-only online instruction. Our courses can also be used by instructors as textbook replacements in classrooms for a very modest fee. Learn more at http://oli.cmu.edu.
