Connected vehicle research at the U.S. Department of Transportation is a multimodal program that is funded and coordinated by the Intelligent Transportation Systems Joint Program Office (ITS JPO), which is part of the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). The program is guided by the ITS Strategic Plan 2015-2019.
The ITS JPO works in partnership with other programs within FHWA, as well as with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), the Federal Transit Administration (FTA), the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), and the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Research and Technology (OST-R). Recently, the ITS JPO began research projects with the Maritime Administration and the St. Lawrence Seaway Commission.
